J. C.Englewood East·2+ weeks agoI am selling an item on Next door and marketplace. I got a message from someone that sent me a text from Google to send her a code back. My text says not to share this number with anyone. She kept telling me she thought I was a summer because I wouldn't comply with her request. I can't find her on Facebook and was afraid to go further. She said she was going yo report me as a scammer. I was scammed a few months ago by someone asking me for this code. I sent it then the person disappeared. I had to change my passwords, and keep watching my accounts to make sure I wasn't being ripped off. Should I have sent her the code just on her say so?17Like149

CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyFebruary 29, 2024 - Port Charlotte, FL Four females were arrested in Port Charlotte after a months-long string of liquor store thefts that spanned 16 jurisdictions. The suspects are all juveniles from the St. Petersburg, Florida area and have been involved in liquor thefts across the state since at least December of 2023. Altogether, the group are suspects in 19 cases from 16 different agencies. On February 27th, 2024, Publix stores in both Venice and North Port were victims of organized retail theft of liquor, each by four black females who were seen driving a black Kia sedan. Members of the North Port Police Department contacted the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office relaying information that the vehicle was last seen heading toward the interstate and going southbound. Deputies staged in the parking lot of the Publix Liquors located at Peachland Boulevard, believing that this would be the next target. As they pulled into the parking lot, they observed the suspect vehicle parking, and the four females exit the vehicle walking toward the store. The store manager from Publix already got a phone call from the North Port Publix and had a photograph of the suspects. The manager observed the females approaching and ran over to lock the door before they could enter. The females were carrying large purses, which had been used to steal liquor in the prior cases. Seeing the manager lock the door, the females headed back to the running vehicle, where they were confronted by deputies. Two of the juveniles, later identified as Jaziah Perry (08/29/2008) and Janiya Sanders (02/25/2007), complied while the other two females fled. Another suspect, identified as Amiah Lovette (01/26/2008), was quickly caught and detained. The final suspect, Ja'Naysia Anderson (07/27/2006), was ultimately located hiding in the bushes in a median. "This is a perfect example of the power of intelligence-led policing. As I have said before, we have excellent working relationships with our surrounding law enforcement agencies, and it has paid off once again. Criminals seem to think they can get away with stuff in Charlotte County, and I am more than happy to prove them wrong over and over again. Hopefully the message is getting clearer: just stay out of our county if you are thinking about committing a crime." - Sheriff Bill Prummell A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, where deputies located more than 50 bottles of assorted liquor. The females were transported to the District 3 office and questioned, where they confessed to two open cases in Charlotte County and several from other jurisdictions. All four females were placed under arrest and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. They are all out on bond out and are set to appear in court on April 2nd.204Like126

CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyFebruary 15, 2024 - Englewood, FL After an investigation that lasted seven weeks, the grandson of a homicide victim has been arrested and charged with his murder. At 5:15am on December 28, 2023, Charlotte County deputies responded to 8432 Matecumbe Rd., in the South Gulf Cove community near Englewood, after receiving a call stating a man had been shot.Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased male with a gunshot wound in the front of the residence. The male was identified as James S. Khoury (01/21/1952). The scene was secured, and an investigation began. The Major Case Unit, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, Crime Scene Technicians, Aviation, the Criminal Investigations Unit, and Patrol deputies, scoured the scene for evidence. The evidence found at the scene determined that the weapon used to kill Mr. Khoury had been a rifle. Despite no known witnesses or security camera footage, detectives were able to develop and follow several leads. As the investigation progressed, the victim's grandson, Joshua Nareau (04/11/2000) was developed as a person of interest. Nareau was also on scene at the time deputies first arrived to the home. Pieces of evidence found at the scene, collected during the execution of search warrants, were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing. This evidence, along with other investigative techniques, enabled detectives to establish probable cause for the arrest of Nareau. On February 15, 2024, Nareau was taken into custody on one count of second-degree murder and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. "I am glad to finally be able to bring an update to you on this terrible incident. As you can see, even though we were not able to share much with you, my detectives and forensics team did a great job and we had a direction for the investigation and ultimately got the person responsible. This does not make it any easier for the family of the victim, who now have even more grief to cope with, but I hope it brings peace of mind to the community once more. Please pray for Mr. Khoury's family as they navigate this unthinkable situation." - Sheriff Bill Prummell52Like49

CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyMiddle School Girl Arrested for Threatening Student and Bringing Knife to School February 7, 2024 - Port Charlotte, FL A middle school girl has been arrested after deputies located a knife in her backpack following threats to harm another student. Earlier today, a School Resource Officer at Murdock Middle School in Port Charlotte was alerted to a notebook a student left behind in class, which detailed a plan to harm another student. The deputy identified Journey Little (06/04/2012) as the owner of the notebook and immediately located and interviewed her. As the deputy was questioning Journey, she confessed to the notebook being hers and stated that she planned on killing another female student due to that female flirting with Journey's boyfriend. The deputy conducted a search of Journey's backpack, locating a 5-inch steak knife inside. At this time, the interview was stopped and the Criminal Investigations Unit was called to respond to the school. A witness provided a sworn recorded statement, saying that during lunch last Monday (01/29/2024), Journey opened her notebook and showed her the notes saying how she wanted to kidnap somebody and kill them and their family. The witness said the intended victim's name was not in the notebook, but based off previous conversations with Journey, she knew who the notes were in reference to. The witness stated that this other student is flirting with everybody's boyfriend and is causing a lot of trouble in school. This prompted Journey and the other student to having an argument in the hallway on Friday (02/02/2024), during which the witness had to physically restrain Journey. The witness advised she did not know that Journey had brought a knife with her to school today. Journey Little was placed under arrest and charged with two felony counts: - Bringing a weapon on school grounds FSS 790.115 (2)(B) - Written threat to kill FSS 836.10 (2)(A) The school will also be addressing the incident with school discipline.64Like131
