I get asked this question a lot: " What does the name Kouri-Vini Consulting Inc mean?" It's always an honor to share my origins and the powerful meaning behind the name. I am the descendant of enslaved and free peoples who spoke the now-endangered Louisiana Creole--who keeps the spirit of the language alive through our #consulting practices liberation work. I am my ancestors' wildest dreams. Kouri-Vini, also known as Louisiana Creole, is the critically endangered Creole language native to Louisiana. It formed among enslaved communities during the French colonial period in the early 18th century. In certain regions it became the lingua franca (common language), spoken by enslaved and freed peoples across racial lines. By the end of the 20th century, the number of speakers had decreased. Today, most remaining speakers of Kouri-Vini are predominantly near the Bayou Teche and along the Mississippi River."

What a week at PEAK Grantmaking's #PEAK2024Seattle! Thank you to Rafael Torres and the wonderful staff, volunteers, and board members at PEAK for organizing such the conference. Next week, Kouri-Vini Consulting Inc will attend its first PEAK Grantmaking Conference in Seattle. I'm nervous and excited to meet my fellow changemakers and attend the inaugural LGBTQIA+ Caucus.
