FORECAST SUMMARY

The transition from April into May this week has been a warm and summery one, with near 90-degree heat to start the week on Monday, and highs mostly at or above the 80° mark every day since. Of course, if you've been in school or at work all week, you're probably hoping the warm and sunny weather continues into the weekend. Unfortunately, that won't be the case this weekend, as cloudier, cooler, and wetter are the trends for the first weekend of May. We'll sneak in one more nice day on Friday, with a mix of clouds and sun and more seasonably mild highs in the low 70s, as the warmth starts its retreat. Clouds will thicken up Friday night, and the entire weekend looks mainly cloudy. Showers will develop on Saturday, especially the farther west you travel, and occasional showers will continue Saturday night into some or most of Sunday. Instead of 80s, highs may struggle to do much better than the 60-degree mark Saturday and Sunday. Of course, once the weekend is over and it's back to work and school, we'll warm right back up early next week, with highs back into the 70s early in the week, with 80-degree warmth perhaps sneaking back for a day or two later in the week. It could be a little unsettled next week though, with a few opportunities for scattered showers or a thunderstorm peppered throughout the week.

DETAILED FORECAST

TONIGHT

After another warm and sunny day, look for a clear to partly cloudy and comfortable night, with lows in the low 50s. We'll squeeze in one more nice, albeit noticeably cooler day, to wrap up the work and school week on Friday.

FRIDAY

While Friday won't be as warm as the rest of the week has been, it will still be a dry and pleasant day overall. Look for intervals of clouds and sunshine, or in other words a partly sunny day, with more seasonably mild highs closer to average for early May in the low 70s. A light easterly ocean breeze will help to cool things off a bit compared to the rest of the week, but the weekend will be even cooler. Clouds will increase and thicken Friday night, but the overnight hours should remain dry overall.

SATURDAY

May the Fourth will not be with us weather-wise, which looks to be an overall cloudier day and therefore a much cooler one too, with highs only around 60 degrees. Some scattered showers are likely to try to develop, more likely the farther west you travel, so Pennsylvania will have the better chance than areas east towards New Jersey, and the closer to the shore you travel, the beter chance of a mostly dry Saturday. Showers should become more widespread Saturday night throughout the entire area.

SUNDAY

Cinco De Mayo will follow suit, with more cloudy, cool, and wet weather with some occasional rain continuing a good chunk of the day, though it may try to taper off towards late afternoon or evening. Highs will be around 60-degrees once again, give or take a degree or two, with rainfall amounts for the entire weekend forecast to be around a half inch to an inch.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY

A cold front will settle to our south, and weak high pressure to our north will try to keep us mostly dry, though a spotty shower is possible on Monday, and a few t-storms are possible later Tuesday night. Even though we'll be on the "cooler" side of the front, our temps will be much better than what we saw over the weekend, as we climb back into the 70s both days with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Warmer weather may await later in the week as our front returns north as a warm front.

LATER NEXT WEEK

Presuming our front lifts back north as a warm front Wednesday, that will open the floodgates for 80-degree highs to possibly return later in the week. As the warmth surges back, there is also the opportunity for some scattered t-storms from time to time as well. So Wednesday and Thursday look warm with at least some sun, but that shower or thunderstorm chance will lurk both days as well. Overall, it could be a warmer and wetter than average end to the week.
