REPORTS TO: Director of Expanded Learning and Site Director

Position Summary

The Academic Content Facilitator is passionate about helping students fall in love with reading and math. This Content Facilitator is professional, creative, flexible, fun, able to teach a diverse array of concepts, and able to communicate with both students and adults. The Academic Content Facilitator is responsible for delivering a scripted curriculum meant to accelerate students in math and reading. The Academic Content Facilitator is a team player excited to support students make amazing academic progress.

About Education for Change Public Schools

Founded in 2005, Education for Change (EFC) is a charter management organization that was created as a partnership between Oakland Unified School District and the education reform community in order to leverage the flexibilities in charter law to facilitate greater innovation and to address the underperformance of our most vulnerable student populations. EFC is Oakland’s largest charter operator, serving over 2,700 students in the Fruitvale and Elmhurst neighborhoods of East Oakland. Five of six of our schools were formerly OUSD schools that converted to EFC to leverage the flexibility and agility provided by charter law for greater outcomes for our students.

Job Responsibilities

  • Internalize, and deliver daily academic lessons for groups of up to 25 students
  • Create a safe, respectful youth development-based learning environment
  • Develop and modify curriculum for academic activities
  • Implement lesson plans that are culturally relevant for a diverse population of
  • Manage behavior and resolve conflicts between students
  • Organize the classroom to facilitate independence and self-control in students
  • Work closely with the Summer Academic Coach, Site Director and Operations Coordinator to track participants’ progress
  • Work as a team member with the Expanded Learning Director, Site Director, and other Academic Content Facilitators
  • Communicate regularly with Site Director and Summer Academic Coach
  • Participate in staff development, training and team meetings as scheduled
  • Maintain organization of classroom and communal supplies and paperwork
  • Effectively prepare for activities and classroom observations
  • Perform other duties as assigned in person or in virtual workspace

About You

  • Experience in and a desire to support students in improving their skills and interest enrichment subjects.
  • Experience working with elementary-age students required.
  • Experience working with diverse families and communities required.
  • Commitment of work the entirety of the summer program.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to work with
  • children, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in students.
  • Ability to manage up to 20 students in a safe, respectful environment.
  • Open to gaining new knowledge and skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and move up to 20 lbs.

Requirements:

Department of Justice clearance based on fingerprinting submission.

• Proof of TB test within the last four years.

Work Schedule

40 hours, 5 days/week.

Work Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm.

Summer Start Date: June 11, 2024 (Staff training week is full time 8:00-4:30 pm)

Last Program Date: July 19, 2024

Must be able to work full program

Benefits

This is a contracted position with the hourly rate of $30-33 and does NOT include a benefits package.
